Microsoft Canada spreading holiday cheer with our annual greeting card – and a little help from 9-year-old Maggie Yang

Posted Dec 20 2011, 06:20 AM by Microsoft Canada Inc.

There’s few people that can so readily share the joy and excitement that comes with the holidays as kids do; they just have this ability to capture emotion in a way that energizes us all.

That’s why Microsoft Canada is thrilled to be celebrating its 15th year of our Holiday Greeting Card Contest in connection with the Boys and Girls Club of Canada. And this year’s winning entry – drawn by nine-year-old Maggie Yang – really highlights what we all love about the holiday season.

A member of Toronto’s Eastview Boys and Girls Club, Maggie’s colourful, snow-filled drawing will be viewed by thousands over the next few weeks as it is shared by Microsoft Canada as the 2011 holiday greeting for our employees, vendors, technology partners and more.

An aspiring artist who loves drawing, dancing, reading and playing the piano, Maggie says she was inspired by the idea of her family and friends playing outside in the winter: “I thought of all the activities I did in the winter last year like sledding, making igloos, snowboarding, and making snow angels,” she explains. “I am really excited that my picture now gets to be on the Microsoft greeting card.”

Maggie’s entry was part of the annual competition that encourages kids to think creatively and dream big. Over the past 15 years, we’ve seen an outstanding 170,000 entries roll in.

As winner of the competition, in addition to her artwork being features, Maggie will receive a new computer packed with Microsoft hardware and a colour printer. Microsoft Canada has also presented the Eastview (Toronto) Boys and Girls Club with a $1,000 donation.
